Are you designing the life and business you actually want? I’m in from Portugal for a few days. It was going to be a work trip, but it turned in to an actual mini break ☀️ I couldn’t have dreamed of this kind of flexibility and opportunity 6 years ago. It’s only possible because I’ve been deliberately planning and implementing a strategy to live a life that I really want. It’s been such hard work and I’m still only 5 years in to my plan.Some things are ahead of schedule and others are behind. But I don’t mind because at least I know what I’m aiming for! Do you?It’s something I discuss a lot with my coaching clients. Because there are so many reasons to bumble through life on autopilot:> Fear of what people will think if we make a change > The time and thinking required to plot a new course > Self worth to believe you and your family deserve happiness> Fear of failure - what if it goes wrong?> The money needed to invest in yourself > The bravery it takes to start > The effort it requires to continue And yet overcoming these things will teach you so much that it's worth doing it just for that, let alone for the amazing feeling of seeing it slowly unfold before your eyes, knowing all along that the best is yet to come. One of our clients just received £29,063 in response to an application we wrote 🥳Here’s what it shows us:⭐️ PatienceWe started work for this client in January ‘24. They were very well prepared so we were able to submit this application, and 6 others in February ‘24. So that’s a month of onboarding and prep and 3 months of waiting to hear back from the funder. In our experience that’s as quick as it gets when outsourcing and yet it took 4 MONTHS. ⭐️ ProspectingResearching funders well takes time and skill and can make all the difference to your work. The benefit of working a company like Better Story is that our database of funders is growing all the time and the more work we do the more accurate it is in terms of who is giving to what.⭐️ PreparationCase for support, accounts, impacts budget… it all takes time and the better prepared you are the quicker you are going to get applications high quality, tailored applications out. URGENT changes to school menu - due to a national shortage of ....🥔 Potatoes 🥔Well, i didn't expect that! A quick google shows spudflation is the latest episode in the cost of living saga! "A shortfall of potato supply is expected to continue and prices are likely to rise, leading potato grower Albert Bartlett has warned. Many varieties are expected to face shortages in the coming months and so-called 'spudflation' is expected to take hold as growers deal with the wettest 18 months since 1836."So, be warned ye chip loving members of LinkedIn! I do coaching.There, i said it.Why is that hard to say when....✔️ I've confidently put together a new website✔️ I've done this for years and helped so many people✔️ I've collected 10 very encouraging testimonials from people I've helpedIt's hard to say because it's not something i've promoted on LinkedIn before. And when you promote something new you open yourself up to criticism. What if people say:"Who does he think he is?""His business only does a half a mill a year!""Doesn't he do fundraising? He should stick to his lane.""Life and business coaching, how gimmicky, that'll never work"I share this because we all have doubts. And it might seem the more you achieve the smaller the doubts get. That can be true. But the reverse can also be true - the doubts can rise to match the size of your ambition.So the challenge isn't to avoid doubt or worry, it's to feel those things but keep doing what you believe is right.So, here I am, offering something I've done for ages but in a shiny new format. Back from the US after an amazing few days working on a case for support and brand story and here’s what I learnt: 👏🏼 Having a smart team tackle a challenge together with humility, passion and commitment is a dream 🔍 Go after the problems, challenges and tricky bits, therein lies the gold 🐍 It’s not a black mamba, it’s a black rat snake 🩹 It’s better to do surgery on the broken arm than it is to stick a plaster on it (which, let’s face it, is sometimes what is fundraisers are tasked with). 🤤 Bao bao buns are squishy pieces of heaven 🧠 I love the creative thinking involved in the process and giving it due time and attention is a privilege ☀️ Sunshine, smash burgers and a rooftop restaurant is a great recipe for a good time. It's an exciting new chapter for nonprofit Whole Word, and I can't wait to share the fruit of our labour. Next stop, Portugal. Any tips for things to do in Porto?
