Why do we need health services in schools? ›

Research shows that SBHCs have a positive impact on absences, dropout rates, disciplinary problems and other academic outcomes. Students receiving SBHC mental health services improve their grades more quickly than their peers.

School health services staff can help all students with preventive care such as flu shots and vision and hearing screening, as well as acute and emergency care.

Screening for height, weight and blood pressure shall be conducted annually for each student in kindergarten through grade 12. Screening for visual acuity shall be conducted biennially for students in kindergarten through grade 10.
